Justin Selle, administrator of Pike County Health Department, Home Health & Hospice, led members of Pike County Chapter NSDAR of a tour of the department’s new home on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The large building provides room for many offices, medical facilities, conference rooms and a kitchen. Over 20 programs are available through PCHD including diabetes education and counseling, hospice care and bereavement support, immunizations, flu shorts, a breastfeeding support group and many other services. This is an excellent and well-planned facility.
Chapter Regent Louise Sitton presided at the business meeting in in the large conference room at the building. She welcomed the members and said that the chapter is celebrating its 102nd anniversary this month.
Sitton led the opening ritual and read the President General’s message. The National Defender report was on Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta who is soon retiring.
We were reminded that Constitution Day is celebrated on Sept. 17, the day of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. A collection was received toward the project of funding a scholarship at Tamassee DAR School.
Recording Secretary Marilyn Johnson read the minutes. MSSDAR State Regent Patsy West sent a note of appreciation for a donation to the Veteran’s Scholarship in memory of her brother. Treasurer Anne Keller sent her report as she could not be present. Vice-Regent Kitty Baumgarth spoke of support for Cold Water Cemetery in St. Louis, which is owned by the Missouri State Society.
The chapter will have a Genealogy Workshop for the public on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Louisiana.
A packet of information is being developed for those attending, who will be asked to bring laptop computers if they wish. Assistance will be given in ways to research and verify ancestry for any one interested.
The chapter’s next meeting will be March 6 at First Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. with a program on DAR Project Patriot by Ann Carter, a member of Susannah Randolph Chapter of Vandalia.
