Louisiana School Superintendent Rich Basden spoke to security issues during the weekly Rotary meeting Jan. 31.
Visiting seniors Megan Painter and Molly Naxera along with Rotarians, Howard Schwadron and Kim Stevens, learned what measures school officials are taking to keep our children safe throughout the school day.
Basden offered the program with recent incidences around the country. He echoed the sentiment shared by most in attendance “things just like they used to be and these are considerations we must take to keep our kids and staff safe”.
He explained that the administration and staff have certain protocols that are followed for different threats and that those are not publicized or practiced because the fewer outsiders that know them the safer the students are.
He also shared that there will be some obvious changes to entries at all of the school over the next few months, some more obvious than others. These include limited access by the public once school is in session.
This will require some minor construction and/or remodel. One example he shared was at the primary school. They intend to move the office to near the current entry foyer so that visitors can be registered and allowed entry.
Volunteers are being solicited to help administration monitor visitors in the interim of the remodels and Dr. Basden encouraged those interested in helping to contact his office.
