Job fair attracts applicants, businesses

Jobs are still at a premium in the slowly-recovering U.S. economy but firms are hiring as witnessed at the job fair held by the Louisiana Economic Development Committee (LEDC) on Friday, Feb. 1.
“There were people waiting at the door at 8:30 (a.m.) when I got here,” said job fair booth participant Jeff Guay of Press-Journal Printing. “People need jobs.”
Guay is looking to hire 10 people to fill slots created by the firm’s new building at the city industrial park, which is tentatively scheduled for construction this spring.
“This is pretty neat,” said job seeker Kyle Crisman of Bowling Green. “It helps people find jobs that are struggling.”
“I’m looking for a job,” said Jennifer Bagley of Vandalia, who said there are few job openings in her hometown. “This lets you know everybody who is hiring.”
LEDC board member Cindy Blaylock greeted job seekers just inside the door of the Your Event Center in downtown Louisiana and said 137 of the registered with her.
