New U.S. Congressman Sam Graves (R-Tarkio) told a crowd that packed ASL Pewter in Louisiana on Friday, Jan. 25 he is a small-business friend who will fight for them.
During a tour of small businesses in the northeast portion of the state, Graves revealed he is chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Small Business Committee.
Northeastern Missouri and America need to know that seven out of 10 jobs are created by small business, the farmer and small businessman said.
The recent battle to increase income taxes on those who make $250,000 or more which was compromised to $400,000 for a single person or $450,000 for a married couple, was a big deal for small business owners, Graves said. That’s because many of them file their income taxes through their small businesses.
Graves said he is also “trying to get more government contracts for small businesses,” because big business grabs most of them now. The new congressman said he would also like to see 25 percent of government contracts go to “microbusinesses” that employ 20 people or less.
