“Big” Danny Essig, 67, of Hannibal, passed away 2:40 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his home in Hannibal.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Hydesburg Cemetery in rural Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate.
Mr. Essig, Jr. was born Jan. 14, 1946, in Los Angeles, Calif. to Rev. Martin Daniel and Ruth Gay Warnock Essig, Sr.

Memorial services to honor the life of Donna Johnson Holton, 61, of Hugo, Okla., formerly of Eolia, were held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Greg Wyble officiating. Visitation was Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Donna passed away Jan. 10, 2013 in Hugo, Okla. She was buried in the Sawyer Cemetery after funeral services being held on Jan. 15, 2013.
Donna Johnson Holton was born June 4, 1951 in Louisiana, the daughter of Billy and Julia(Woodward) Johnson. She grew up on a grain and livestock farm where they raised and trained Hackney show ponies. She enjoyed being around horses and helping her dad on the farm. Donna loved hunting, fishing, boating, horseback riding and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She attended and graduated from Clopton High School in 1969.
Donna is survived by her parents Bill and Julia Johnson of Bowling Green; two daughters Kimberly Dawn Curtis and husband Terry of Sawyer, Okla., and Kelli DeAnne Rushin and husband Jeff of Grant, Okla.; four grandsons Blake, Cody, Blaine, and Tanner Curtis; one granddaughter Karli Brooke Rushin; four great grandchildren Xadin, Riggin, Kayson and Tucker is coming soon, all of Oklahoma; sister Debbie Tophinke and husband Chuck of Bowling Green; two nieces Jennifer Ogden of St. Louis and Nicole Tophinke of Bowling Green and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Donna was very special and kind and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Funeral Services for Helen Darlene Hunter, of Elsberry, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Kelly Hardcastle, of Troy, and Rev. Gene Stewart, of Annada, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry.
Mrs. Hunter, 81, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehab in Jonesburg.
Born May 10, 1931 in Hobert, near Silex, she was the daughter of Jerry Miah and Mary Edna Colbert Ray. She was united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1948 in Elsberry to Thomas Eugene Hunter. This union was blessed with two children: Michael and Karen. She worked for many years as a seamstress and presser for Bobbin A Long until the business closed. She was a member of IGLW (International Ladies Garment Workers Union.) In her free time, she enjoyed working as a waitress at the Bowling Green Sale Barn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Mary Ray; one son, Michael Ray Hunter in 1971; one brother, J.C. Ray; and two sisters: Margie Gladney and Serdie Ray.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Thomas Hunter of Elsberry; one daughter, Karen Shuford-Smith and her husband, Bob, of Elsberry; three grandchildren: Kristy Seidel and her husband, Ray, of Aurora, Ill., Mike Shuford and his wife, Stacy, of Elsberry and Molly Rosauer and her husband, Joel, of Iowa City, Iowa; and three great-grandchildren: Zachary and Braedan Seidel and Kelsey Shuford. She also leaves one sister, Dottie Stewart and her husband, Gene, of Annada; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leland Ochs, 99, of Bowling Green, passed away Jan. 23, 2013 at the Country View Nursing Home in Bowling Green.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 25, at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev Keith Barnhart officiating. Burial was in the Edgewood Cemetery. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.
Leland was born June 29, 1913 in Chesterfield, the son of Frank and Lydia Holtz Ochs. He married Ethel Zumwalt in April, 1940. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2003.
Survivors include three sons: Ray Ochs, Roger Ochs and wife Barb, and Ron Ochs, all of Bowling Green; one daughter: Rosa Park, of Montgomery City; nine grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Richard Ochs, brother George Ochs and sister Hester Keller.
Leland was born in Chesterfield on the family farm and later moved to the Bowling Green – Edgewood area. He worked as a surveyor for the WPA, drove a bus for McDonald Douglas employees and was a crane operator under McDonald Douglas, retiring in 1975.
Serving as pallbearers were Rick Ochs, Randy Ochs, Robbie Ochs, Doug Ochs, Eddie Ochs and Dewayne Rodgers. Serving as an honorary pallbearer was Shawn Smith.
Memorials may be made to the Edgewood Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mr. Herman Edward “Bunk” Meyers, 87, of Louisiana were held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Donald Kelley officiated.
Burial was in the Jordan-Buffalo Cemetery near Louisiana. Mr. Meyers passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia.
He was born Sept. 8, 1925 in Louisiana, the son of Rolla and Bessie Woestemeyer Meyers.
He married Dora Alice Shrum Dec. 22, 1951 in Louisiana and she survives. He is also survived by one son, John Edward Meyers and wife Norma of Hannibal; one daughter, Rosalie White of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, George W. Smith and Clarence R. Smith; and two sisters, Sarah Brown and Rosalie Crutchlow.
He graduated from the Louisiana High School. He was a veteran serving with the United States Navy during World War II.
He had been employed at Hercules Chemical Company in Louisiana, retiring after 23 years of employment.
Active pallbearers were Jim Tutor, Billy Shrum, Mike Lindsay, Mike Lindsay Jr., Ronnie Raddatz, Darell Caswell and Darren Caswell.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisiana. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening to bluegrass music and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.
Dorothy D. Moss, 95, of Bowling Green, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at the Moore Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green. Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the New Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Hoehn officiating. Burial was at the Keith Cemetery in New Hartford. Visitation was held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 25, at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Dorothy was born June 9, 1917 in New Hartford the daughter of Henry Clark and Minnie Davison Stroker. She married Kirby W. Moss Aug. 8, 1937. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1996.
She is survived by one daughter: Sherry Clawson, of New Port Richey, Fla.; five grandchildren: Aaron Moss, Renee Hays, Tara Clawson, Nicole Clawson, Jordan Moss; five great grandchildren: Kelsey Moss, Braden Hays, Cassandra Hays, Joey Whitaker, Margetta Whitaker; several nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law: Kathy Moss, of Bowling Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son George, sister Vivian Trower, granddaughter Vickie Downy, great granddaughter Brittany Downy and a son-in-law Bob Clawson.
Dorothy lived in Chicago for 10 years, during which time she was employed to support war-time efforts. She moved back to Pike County in 1947. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was the ultimate homemaker. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the New Hartford Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers were Aaron Moss, Jordon Moss, Richard Hays, Marty Moss, Tommy Moss, Joe Moss. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Eddie Bybee, Ruth Ann Hill, Jane Reid, Sandra Traynor, Barbara DeLorez, and Judy Moss.

Mrs. Mary Edith Parker, 89, of Louisiana passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at her home in Louisiana with her family by her side. Memorial services were held on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Jeanne Webdell officiated.
She was born March 30, 1923 in Lumber City, Ga., the daughter of James McGregor and Edith Hogue McGregor.
She married Luther C. Parker Jan. 13, 1945 in Lumber City, Ga. and he preceded her in death Nov. 12, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Peg Parker Goodner and husband Gregg of Jonesboro, Ark. and Pam Parker Grote and husband, Fred of Pittsfield, Ill.; four grandchildren, Ryan Parker Goodner and wife, Ashley of Charlotte, N.C., Lindsay Elizabeth Goodner of Dallas, Texas, Brian Thomas White of Loveland, Colo., and Jane Grote of Minneapolis, Minn.; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Parker Goodner of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Roy McGregor of Waycross, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard McGregor and James McGregor; and one sister, Helen Fogle.
Mary graduated from high school in Lumber City, Ga. She later graduated from the McGregor Business College.
She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Louisiana. She enjoyed gardening, dancing and listening to Big Band Music.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Phillip Pitney, Dr. Jerry Kennett, Alan Abel, Dr. Joe Martin, Ed Behrens, Justin Harrison, Tim Jordan, Tommy Rieck and Garret Daniel.

She was born Oct. 3, 1921 in Louisiana the daughter of John Q. Patterson and Roxie Wilson Patterson.
She is survived by two nephews, John Barnum, Sr. of Quincy, Ill. and Edward Barnum and wife, Cheryl of Bonfield, Ill.; one niece, Donna Bradley of Louisiana; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, John and Roxie Patterson and one sister, Doris Barnum.
She graduated from the Louisiana High School in 1939. She later graduated from the Gem City business College in Quincy, Ill.
She has been employed as an office manager for Merchant’s Wholesale, Merkel’s Sporting Goods, Miller Castle Frieberg Insurance Agency and then for Bergner’s Department Store in Quincy for 31 years before retiring in 2007.
Pallbearers are Scott Alan Crow Jr., Don Ince, James T. Griffith Jr., Jerry Reed and J. E. Woods.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisiana.
Arlene Ruth “Granny” Jennings, 95, of Vandalia, passed away Jan. 23, 2013 at the Tri County Care Center in Vandalia.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Paytie Hinch officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Frankford. Visitation for Arlene was from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Arlene was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Bowling Green, the daughter of Ezra and Eva Gilbert Inlow. On Aug. 1937 she married Charles Ernie Jennings in Alley Springs. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1995.
Survivors include two sons: William (Bill) Jennings and wife Sally, of Hannibal, and Russell Jennings and wife Wanda, of Martinsburg; one daughter: Charlotte D. Jennings, of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Claudine Jennings, brothers James H. Inlow and Harry Edward Inlow, and sister Mary Elizabeth Inlow.
Arlene lived the majority of her life in Frankford except for the past seven years which she enjoyed living at the Tri County Care Center in Vandalia. She was a member of Frankford Baptist Church. Arlene enjoyed hand quilting and giving them to her family and friends. She especially received joy in making quilts for the grand-babies. She enjoyed word find books. Arlene loved visiting with her many friends and family.
Serving as pallbearers were Bryan James, Robert Dryden, Buddy Durham, Travis Lybarger, Doug Jennings and Jeff Jennings.
