Murder suspect pleads guilty to manslaughter
Michael Phillips, 46, of St. John, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Pike County Circuit Court on Friday, July 11 for the shooting death of his son. He was sentenced to seven years in state prison.
Phillips shot Jeff Chisholm, 22, to death at a cabin near Frankford on Aug. 31, 2013, during an argument, according to court records. Phillips told police after the shooting that he had no other choice.
Charges of second degree murder and armed criminal action were dropped by Pike County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Fisher in return for Phillips’ guilty plea.
