Niemann Foods Training Supervisor Kathy Parker greets a prospective employee of the new County Market at a job fair held at the grocery store site on Thursday, June 19.

With a mid-August opening anticipated for the new County Market in Louisiana, Niemann Foods Inc., held a job fair for more than 100 prospective employees on Thursday, June 19.
“We had people here before 2 p.m.,” when the job fair doors officially opened, said Niemann Foods Human Resources Director Jodie Felter.
“It went well,” said Niemann Consumer Affairs Manager Gerry Kettler. “We’re getting closer and we’ll be there before you know it.”
Applications went out to 114 people, Kettler said. The new grocery store will employ 70 to 80 employees, with most of them local, according to company officials. County Market workers are offered a stake in the business through employee ownership.
Niemann Foods President Rich Niemann said last year employees who own a part of the County Market they work in tend to be more productive because they know their performance can enhance their own finances.
The job applications will now be reviewed by Niemann Foods and interviews will begin soon, Kettler said.
Those hired will then be trained for the late summer opening of County Market at the old Kroger supermarket site at 3328 Georgia Street in Louisiana.
Kroger abandoned the site in October 2012 and Louisiana has been without a full-service grocery store ever since.

Other grocery chains were contacted about Louisiana’s need for a grocery store, but only Niemann Foods responded with action.
Troubles with a lease slowed the $3 million renovation project for the store, but it is on track, according to officials of Heimer Construction, of Taylor, the main contractors.
The store is expected to have a full delicatessen with seating, a bakery and all the other features of a full grocery store.
