“We were not at our best defensively but took advantage of some mistakes by them and had some timely hits as well,” said Louisiana Head Coach Ryan Griffin. “We were pleased with their ability to overcome some adversity and find a way to win.”
Junior pitcher Dallas Castagna scattered four hits over four innings, walked three, struck out nine and gave up only one earned run.
Junior Brandon Holland got the win in three innings of relief, giving up only one hit, one walk and one earned run while striking out nine.
Castagna also came through at the plate. He went two-for-three with a walk, a triple, a double and two RBIs.
Senior infielder Dustin Green walked twice, had a hit, one RBI and scored twice.
Sophomore shortstop Zach Richardson got on base twice with a hit and a walk and scored once.
Senior outfielder Austin Rule had a hit and scored. Junior catcher Collin Stark had a hit, a walk and one RBI.
Green pitched and gave up only five hits over six innings. Holland shut the door pitching a scoreless seventh inning for the win.
“We played pretty solid and took advantage of their mistakes,” Griffin said.
Green got the win with three walks, eight strikeouts and gave up only two earned runs.
Green also shined at the plate, going two-for-three with a walk, single, double and one RBI. Holland had a pair of singles and scored once.
Castagna hit a home run and scored twice. Richardson had two hits and scored once.
Rule walked once, had a double, scored once and drove in two runs.
Junior infielder Justin Lenz walked, had a single and scored once. Junior infielder Hank Calvin had one hit and scored.
Senior first baseman Austin Baker had one hit and two RBIs.
