A Louisiana man is proposing to build a grain shipping facility on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River across from Louisiana.
Greg Dolbeare has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to put up six silos holding 200,000 bushels of grain apiece, scales, truck pits and a 900-foot long conveyor to the river just north of the Kansas City Southern Railroad Bridge.
Dolbeare graduated from Louisiana High School in 1971 and has been involved in river and railway shipping for many years outside of the area. His father, Ray Dolbeare, ran the MFA grain elevator now operated by Bunge Corporation when Greg was young.
“I’m excited. It’s been a lifelong dream to do this,” Dolbeare said Friday, Feb. 14.
Dolbeare hopes to have the project complete by the fall of 2015, but is not sure how the permit process will affect his time line..
