Clopton girls squad now 3-3 going into break, January tournament

The Clopton Lady Hawks are 3-3 for the season after winning at home last week against rival Elsberry.
The Lady Hawks game against Keokuk at the John Wood Shootout in Quincy, Ill. on Saturday, Dec. 21 was postponed due to the weather.
The Lady Hawks came out flat at home against the Elsberry Lady Indians on Friday, Dec. 19 and were down 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Elsberry was outhustling and outrebounding Clopton while moving the ball on offense for open shots.
The second quarter was a different story as Elsberry repeatedly turned the ball over and fouled. That caused a string of successful free throws from the Lady Hawks who took a lead and stretched it to 33-28 at halftime.
Clopton did more of the same in the third quarter and used a 20-4 run to push the lead to 53-32.
“We had a 42-18 run in the middle two quarters,” Clopton Head Coach Larry Lagemann said, reversing a recent Clopton trend to go lax in mid-game.
“This game was a total team effort,” Lagemann said. “We had several of our starters in foul trouble right from the beginning and I was really pleased with how the rest of the team stepped in and contributed.
“Megan Parrish played extremely well on both ends of the floor and Brittney Hamilton is regaining her shooting touch and is showing signs of becoming a scoring threat.’
Senior guard Shelby Dunn led the Lady Hawks attack with 20 points and six assists. She also had three steals and two rebounds.
Parrish led the team defensively with nine rebounds and a blocked shot. She also put in 11 points.
Senior forward Hamilton scored 14 points, hit a pair of three-pointers, was six for 10 from the foul line and had two assists. She also had five rebounds and three steals.
Junior guard Lauren Lagemann had seven points, an assist, three rebounds and a steal.
Freshman center Ashtyn Lagemann had an assist, seven rebounds and a steal.
Senior forward Spencer Hicks had three points, two assists, six rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot.
Junior forward Katie Klopcic had four points.
Junior forward Caitlyn Barr had two points, an assist and two rebounds.
The Lady Hawks will not play over the holiday break but will compete on the road against the Mark Twain Lady Tigers with the JV starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.
The Lady Hawks will host the Clopton Invitational and go up against the Wellsville Lady Wildcats in the first round at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6.
The winner of that game will play in the championship bracket at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 8. The loser will play in the consolation bracket at the same time in the old gym.
The consolation championship game will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 in the old gym.
The third place game will be played at 7 p.m. on Jan. 10, followed by the championship game at 8:30 p.m.
