Raintree Arts sponsors ‘New Kid’ performance
On Nov. 20, Bowling Green, Louisiana and BONCL schools attended the “New Kid” performance by Metro Theatre of St. Louis, sponsored in part by the Raintree Arts Council.
The play was well received. Dennis Foon, the playwright, gave insight to the immigration experience. He reversed the language where the Americans speak gibberish and the immigrants speak English so attendees could see the experience from the newcomer’s point of view.
Many of the situations in the play were hilarious which produced an abundance of laughter. On the serious side, students could see how the newcomer and his family felt when he was bullied.
Students had a question and answer session after the play and were asked various questions. They had the opportunity to have input on what they thought about the play.
Also helping in making this program possible was the support of the Arts Educational Council, Missouri Arts Council and the Buffalo Township United Fund.
